In the 7th century, the legendary king BHUTIVARMA established the Devalaya and issued some copper plates but in the long run all copper plates were destroyed. Next in the 7th century, the king Kumar BHASKARVARMA and his brother SUPRATISTHITAVARMA issued six new Copper Plates to Devalaya but in the long run the Devalaya was destroyed. The copper plates discovered while digging the earth near the Shiva temple called "PARIHARESWAR DEVALAYA" in the village Dubi. The copper plates are preserved in the state museum.
In the 17th century, a Brahman named Dharmabar, discovered the Shiva ling by digging in his agrofield when the Ahom king SHIVA SINGHA, ruled Assam. The noble SHIVA SINGHA came to know about the Shiva ling, and constructed a temple in the site and donated lands, Prist, pykes, Gayan, Bayan, Malakar for regular worship.
In the SHAKA 1660 king SHIVA SINGHA, by making another copper plate and donated, which is still in the Devalaya. The king SHIVA SINGHA donated 774 puras of land and later the authority confirmed it by by an order issuing 774 pura lands and 54 Paykes as par (Parakakat) each to PARIHARESWAR, BILLESWAR and PINGALESWAR Devalaya. The Queen PHULESWARI also donated an "ASTHABHUJA DURGA" to the Devalaya and since then, DURGA PUJA is celebrated with traditions and rituals.
The main Shiva linga was located in an area 210 sq feet (14.5*14.5) and in the depth 12.5 feet in the "YONIPITH". The main 'BIGRAH' was known as "Burhagohain". In the temple besides Shiva regular puja is offered to Bishnu and "Durga". The boiled "Bhog" in the form of veg and non-veg is offered daily. The Bali tradition (sacrifice) is offered during DURGA PUJA started from Pratipad of Navami.
